Thermarest DreamTime Review

Thermarest DreamTimeI have a bad back, and slept on this for a month when I visited India. It was wonderful!I never had any back pain in the morning, which had been the case when I have slept on a futon or the ground.I will admit that the Therm-a-rest Dream Time is expensive, but it is hard to beat from a comfort standpoint.By the way, you can control how firm or soft it is to some extent by how much air you put into the self-inflating pad.

Although it would probably not be a great choice for back packing, it does roll up in a fairly compact roll for transport. The model I got was the extra large, which is the 30" wide self-inflating pad with a foam pad on top.It has a removable, washable fleece cover over both pads.I would purchase it again and highly recommend it to others.

My only small complaint is that the "extra large" Therm-a-rest stuff sack does NOT fit the Dream Time (it is way too small!).To my knowledge, Therm-a-rest does not make a stuff sack for the Dream Time, but I wish they did.The Dream Time does come in a plastic sleeve with a zipper, but there is no handle or strap to transport it, making it awkward to carry from place to place, because it is big and sort of bulky (with no handle).

Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus Mattress Review

Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus MattressINTRO

Not knowing my objectives when I deployed to Haiti, I purchased this mat for both sleeping outdoors or comverting it into a camping chair. The construction is lightweight and fits easily into my Tactical Backpack. The negative is that I had to purchase a sac for it separately.

USE

This pad is comfortable, as a stand alone pad or useful when trying to sleep on a military mattress. Open the seal, and the pad inflates in a matter of seconds. Taking this pad down takes about 3-5 minutes to roll, empty the air and then fold again. The outer covering is durable.

PRO

Light
Versatile and compact

CON

No accompanying sack

OVERALL

This is a great accessory sleeping pad for both camping, military operations or even when watching a game (with the chair accessory).

Product Description:
Therm-a-Rest's Fast & Light mattresses allow you to experience unrivaled comfort without compromising your goals. Weighing less and packing smaller than other mattresses, they facilitate the kind of high-speed, low-weight camping experience sought by alpinists, adventure racers, and long-distance backpackers alike. Hailing from the Fast & Light series, the ProLite Plus is Therm-a-Rest's warmest, lightest, and most compact self-inflating mattress. About Therm-a-Rest
In 1971, Seattle aerospace giant Boeing announced the largest layoff in company history, resulting in 50,000 people losing their jobs. Among the jobless were Jim Lea and Neil Anderson, both engineers who were eager to get back to work. Turning to friend John Burroughs--an avid mountain climber--for ideas, Burroughs suggested a better sleeping mattress, specifically one that was lightweight, warm, and comfortable.
Taking their inspiration from gardening cushions that expelled air as the gardener shifted his or her weight, the duo took a piece of open-cell foam and sandwiched it between two pieces of airtight fabric. Using an old sandwich maker, they melted the fabric onto the foam, creating a bond that was perfectly airtight. After adding a valve, their prototype was ready to test. Within two years, Lea and Anderson had partnered with Burroughs to begin production of Therm-a-Rest pads, the world's first self-inflating mattress. Under the name Cascade Designs, the private, family-owned company has grown into one of the most respected outdoor manufacturers in the world. Still based in Seattle, Cascade Designs sticks to the same fundamental principles it was founded upon: providing relevant and innovative products, exceptional quality, and service that exceeds your expectations.
